Another example of how the Webster Groves Community Shows the Love with our Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grants! #STloveWGHS
"Dr. Joanna Sinha (former WGHS School Psychologist) and I, were awarded a Parent’s Club Grant for the 15-16 school year. The grant provided funds so that our students who were homeless, living in foster care, or at Epworth could celebrate their birthday’s with friends at school.
Foster youth are at-risk for struggling to connect with their school community due to frequent school changes and barriers due to their home life or home living situation. The general school student population has opportunities to celebrate achievements and milestones outside of the school setting with their peers.
This portion of our student population is particularly at-risk for feeling unwanted or unworthy of acceptance. The hope was for these celebrations to help students feel connected, therefore facilitating a path for personal success at WGHS and beyond. Foster youth were able to invite their friends, and celebrate their birthday with pizza, cake, cards, and music.
The grant also provided disposable cameras so that students could have hard copies of the memories they created to take with them (many did not have the technology available to them as other teens in our building do).
Attached is a picture. Not all pictured are foster youth. Some have since left WGHS."
