Catch Up with the Class of 2018!

The Webster Groves High School Parents' Club is Catching Up with the Class of 2018!

One of the missions of the Parents' Club is to distribute at least seventeen $1,000 scholarships to graduating WGHS seniors. The scholarships are based on both financial need and a demonstrated ability to succeed. Student's submit applications that include their FAFSA score, GPA, an essay, and academic ratings from three teachers or counselors.
The Club recently caught up with a few of the 2018 scholarship recipients, and we had the wonderful opportunity to learn about how their first semesters at school are going.

Anthony Brown

Anthony is studying Mechanical Engineering at Washington University, and he took time out of his busy school schedule to answer a few questions about his college experience.

What is your favorite thing about college?

"My favorite thing so far is the open schedule and having the freedom to manage my time in my own way."

What are you looking forward to this year?

"I am looking forward to meeting new people and learning more and more things that I am interested in."

How did the WGHS Parents' Club scholarship help you?

"The WGHS Parents’ Club scholarship helped me immensely. Without it I would not be able to continue my education at a top class university."

Jack Snelling

Jack is attending the University of Missouri (Mizzou) studying Music Composition. Jack is busy at school participating in multiple ensembles in Mizzou and Columbia including the MU Wind Ensemble and Concert Jazz Band, in addition to, the Columbia Civic Orchestra.

What is your favorite thing about college so far?

"My favorite thing about college so far is definitely the freedom that I’ve been experiencing. I love having fewer classes during the day, and I love being able to take only the classes that are appealing to me, as well as having more free time to practice and hang out with friends."

How did the WGHS Parents' Club scholarship help you?

"Although I had my education paid for in MU-specific scholarship money, the Parents Club Scholarship assisted me in purchasing a bassoon of my own. Bassoon is my primary instrument, and up until now I was unable to afford one to take to college. With the bassoon I was able to successfully make principal chair bassoonist in the MU Wind Ensemble, one of the highest music ensembles on campus!"

Hannah Bowman

Hannah is attending Truman State University and studying Classics. Hannah sent the Club photos including her with a complete human nervous system, a puppy, friends and floormates, at New Student Welcome, and lounging in a hammock in the quad at school.

What is your favorite thing about college so far?

"My favorite thing about college so far is the community we’ve formed on my floor."

What are you looking forward to this year?

"I most look forward to getting to know my professors."

How did the WGHS Parents' Club scholarship help you?

"The Parent’s Club scholarship helped me to buy textbooks and groceries when the dining hall food was not so vegetarian friendly."

The Parents' Club is hoping to raise at least $17,000 to support the Class of 2019 Scholarship Program. Here is how you can be a part of making an impact for a student like Anthony, Jack, or Hannah.
The Parents' Club will soon launch our Webster's Best ChiliFest event, so check your inbox for details about tickets to the event. On behalf of the Webster Groves High School Parents' Club, Thank You!
