Join us for Webster Groves High School Open House! Wednesday, August 31, 2016
Welcome back! My name is Liz Rolf Kanerva and I am this year’s Parent Club co-chair, along with Beth Estes Barr. On behalf of the Webster Groves Parent’s Club, I look forward to greeting you at the annual Open House on August 31st. Yes...this is the night (Hello, Class of 2020!) when the administration, foundation, and Parent’s Club introduce themselves to you AND you meet your child’s teachers.
The Parent’s Club’s most obvious focus is fundraising. Our resources fund three primary areas: Senior Scholarships, Teacher Education Grants, and the Senior Graduation Party. The Club works very hard on behalf of all our students, teachers, and administrators and the Club’s success is only because of you, the parents.
I think it is important for all of us to be reminded a bit of the Club’s history. It wasn’t so many years ago that individual classes were in competition for fundraising dollars as each class was responsible for funding its own programs and goals. Not only was there competition, but work overload for parent volunteers. Some classes suffered when adult leadership was limited.
Since merging individual class fundraising and programming into one stream, we’ve experienced amazing growth and renewed investment into the school. Beyond unified fundraising, the club increases our school spirit and celebrates the current senior class together. Your participation, in whatever capacity, is essential. I look forward to getting to know you at the variety of social events and fundraisers the Club has in the works.
Here are a few things to know about August 31st.
Firstly, Spirit Wear will be on sale. It will be a great time to pick up a fresh t-shirt for a new season of cheering on the Statesmen and Stateswomen!
On a sales sidenote: WGHS Buzz Book will be for sale as well!
Secondly, Suzy Perry and Jenny Weihl will be there to answer your questions about volunteering in club activities. (Class of 2020 - thank you! You all have stepped up in amazing ways!)
Lastly, it is tradition at the annual Open House to “Pass the Hat.” This fundraiser is super easy and parents have been incredibly generous in past years. During the assembly, top hats will be passed for your donations. I suspect that you, like me, rely on debit cards and rarely have cash, but I ask you all to bring a dollar...or two...or twenty and support the Pass the Hat fundraiser. Last year, you gave a $1100! Thank you for your generosity and support!
